BIN TAGS PRICE INCREASE

Our Council has decided to increase some of the fees and charges for services we deliver. 

From 1 July, the cost of a Pay As You Throw (PAYT) rubbish tag for kerbside collection will go up 25 cents to $8.25. You can continue to use tags bought before 1 July.

We operate seven Refuse and Recycling Transfer Stations – at Thames, Coromandel Town, Matarangi, Whitianga, Tairua, Pāuanui and Whangamatā.

They're open to standard hours, seven days a week including most public holidays:

During daylight saving

28 September 2025 – 4 April 2026 Monday to Sunday,

8:30am - 5:30pm

Outside of daylight saving

5 April 2026 – 26 September 2026 Monday to Sunday,

8:30am - 4:30pm

Closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday and until 1pm on Anzac day

After - hours drop off

The transfer stations at Matarangi, Tairua, Whangamata and Pauanui all have after - hours disposal facilities for rubbish bags at $5 each (household waste only) and free drop-off of recycling and glass.

Soft Plastics Recycling Scheme

Following a successful launch in Thames in June 2022, the Packaging Forum’s soft plastic recycling scheme has also now been introduced in Tairua, Whangamatā and Whitianga.

This scheme promotes soft plastic recycling using community collection bins. The soft plastics will then be turned into fence posts or building materials.

Smart Environmental will collect the soft plastics and bale the plastic ready to transport either to Future Post in Tuakau (where the product will be made into plastic fence posts) or save BOARD in Hamilton (where it will be made into building materials).

 Our Council’s Solid Waste team work closely with the Packaging Forum to provide this service.
