Thames-Coromandel District Council is holding a public meeting this month to look at how recent weather events are affecting the Tairua community. The views of the business community are of particular importance to us.
This meeting is launching a survey to capture your experiences of extreme weather.
Your experiences — whether in your business, at work, or at home — are vital in helping us understand the effects of storms and flooding on daily life, health and wellbeing.
Alongside technical and scientific investigations already underway, your feedback will build a clearer picture of what’s happening on the ground.
Your insights will help guide future discussion on potential options for coastal protection. Understanding community experiences will also be important in exploring fair, affordable ways to fund potential coastal protection.
We’re here to listen and learn from you.

Right after the coastal survey launch (check out the post a bit further down the page), we’re inviting the community to join us to provide their input on the first stage of a plan we’re developing.
This is a really important ‘big‑picture’ plan that will shape what the Coromandel Peninsula looks like in 30+ years’ time. For example, it will identify where housing, businesses and infrastructure (like roads and water) should go, and the places that need protection because of their cultural and environmental importance.
To do this, we need to hear what matters most to the people of Tairua.
