Brits At The Beach - October 6th, 7th, 8th
This is the 8th Brits at the Beach which originated in Tairua, but has been based in Whangamata for the past 4 years. Tairua still features however, and as part of the event, the Tairua Day Tripper takes place on the afternoon of Saturday 7th October.
Vehicles (cars and a few motorbikes) arrive in Tairua between 1.30pm to 2.30pm and are directed via a circuitous route around the town and into the Pepe Reserve (on the east side of Main Road), where they are expected to remain until approximately 4.30pm/5.00pm.
Participants and the public will be given the opportunity to vote for their favourite (best) car, for which a trophy will be awarded at the conclusion of the event.
A set of stocks will be erected and all those who wish to can be imprisoned (Captivated by Tairua) and photographed in these if desired. A gold coin donation gives them a chance to win a lucky draw for an accommodation prize.
Live music from local musicians “The Fretmen” will be playing from the Pepe Restaurant alongside the reserve for the duration of the event.
The Tairua Live Saving Club will be running barbeques and managing the stocks as fundraisers during the event.
Participants will be able to “Park up on the Pepe” and patronize local cafes and shops, whilst allowing the public a chance to look over their beautiful vehicles.
Dad’s Army (courtesy of the Tairua Focus Group) will be on hand to add to the fun of the event.
